About the Role

ICON plc, a global leader in healthcare intelligence and clinical research, is seeking an experienced Vice President, Global Medical Affairs – Lab Solutions. This senior leadership role is integral to driving medical, scientific, and operational excellence across ICON’s global network of central and specialty laboratories.

As a key member of the global leadership team for ICON Laboratory Solutions, you will provide strategic oversight, ensure laboratory data integrity, and support patient safety across clinical development programs worldwide.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and retain a high-performing global medical affairs team comprising CAP/CLIA license holders, laboratory scientists, pathologists, and technical directors.

  • Provide coaching and direction to medical laboratory and technical directors to maximize operational impact.

  • Define and execute organizational priorities aligned with business objectives, laboratory data quality, harmonization, and clinical trial participant safety.

  • Drive continuous improvements in systems, operations, and quality practices across the global laboratory network.

  • Engage with internal and external drug development leaders to ensure laboratory testing services meet industry and customer expectations.

  • Establish and maintain senior-level partnerships with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and healthcare organizations.


Profile & Experience Requirements

  • Medical degree or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline.

  • Minimum 3 years of CLIA medical laboratory director experience.

  • At least 10 years of clinical laboratory management experience within a healthcare system, diagnostic network, pharmaceutical company, or CRO.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing multi-site or multi-functional teams.

  • Strong analytical and strategic mindset with the ability to convert insights into practical operational improvements.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work onsite 3 days per week at one of the following locations:

    • Farmingdale, NY

    • Cambridge, MA

    • Portland, OR

    • Blue Bell, PA

  • Salary Range: USD 275,000–375,000 (compensation based on location, experience, and skills). Performance-based bonus, stock options, and additional benefits may apply.
