Job Overview

Fortrea is seeking a Senior Research Associate to join our Chemistry Solutions team in Hyderabad. This role is responsible for executing chemical syntheses to produce target molecules and compounds per client specifications, using efficient and optimized synthetic routes. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in organic or medicinal chemistry, strong analytical skills, and adherence to safety, quality, and IP compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

Chemical Synthesis & Project Execution

  • Plan, set up, and execute reactions for the synthesis of target molecules and compounds according to client requirements.

  • Review and understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and identify potential safety risks in consultation with supervisors.

  • Optimize use of reagents, equipment (glassware, stirrers, vacuum pumps, etc.), and reaction conditions (temperature, pressure) to ensure high-quality outcomes with minimal wastage.

  • Monitor reaction progress using analytical techniques and perform appropriate workup and purification to obtain intermediate or final compounds with desired quality and purity.

  • Analyze and interpret analytical data, document findings, and generate comprehensive reports.

  • Ensure parallel execution of multiple reactions to meet project timelines and productivity benchmarks.

Safety & Laboratory Compliance

  • Adhere to laboratory safety protocols, quality systems, and good laboratory practices (GLP).

  • Maintain and properly operate laboratory equipment and instruments as per SOPs.

  • Promote a safe and organized laboratory environment, enforcing housekeeping and compliance standards.

Documentation, Data Integrity & IP Protection

  • Accurately document experimental procedures, observations, and results in lab notebooks or electronic systems, ensuring data integrity.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of intellectual property (IP) and comply with all related organizational policies.

  • Prepare final reports for client submission or internal record keeping.

Team Development & Knowledge Sharing

  • Mentor junior researchers and enhance team capabilities through training sessions, one-on-one discussions, and project-based guidance.

  • Continuously develop expertise in organic/medicinal chemistry, synthetic techniques, and analytical methodologies.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or related field.

  • Experience: 1–5 years of relevant experience in chemical synthesis and laboratory research.

  • Strong knowledge of organic chemistry, analytical techniques, laboratory safety protocols, and IP confidentiality.

  • Proficiency in data analysis, cost-benefit evaluation, and resource optimization.

  • Research publications in leading journals are a plus.

  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and communication skills.
