Position Overview
The Medical Coding Analyst role involves accurately coding medical records using ICD-10-CM and PCS standards. This position requires strong analytical ability, comprehensive understanding of clinical documentation, and adherence to industry regulations such as HIPAA, CMS guidelines, and official coding standards. Candidates will be expected to meet strict productivity and accuracy benchmarks aligned with client SLAs.
Key Responsibilities
Post-Training Responsibilities Include:
Assigning ICD-10-CM and PCS codes to medical records with accuracy as defined by SLA requirements.
Ensuring full compliance with HIPAA regulations and data privacy standards.
Identifying and reporting documentation inconsistencies or discrepancies to relevant supervisors.
Meeting all quality, productivity, and turnaround time requirements.
Reporting discharge disposition according to CMS rules and regulations.
Applying official coding guidelines established by the American Hospital Association (AHA) and other mandated authorities for inpatient and outpatient encounters.
Maintaining minimum accuracy and productivity standards as defined in KRAs and client service agreements.
Following organizational policies, including flexibility regarding work shifts, team changes, and location-based assignments as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
Education
Eligible backgrounds include:
Life Sciences (Graduate or Postgraduate)
Allied Medical Sciences: BHMS, BAMS, BPT, BDS
Pharmacy (B.Pharm, M.Pharm)
Nursing and related health disciplines
Certification
Candidates must hold at least one of the following:
AAPC Certification (CPC, CPC-H, CPC-P)
AHIMA Certification (CCS, CCS-P)
Experience Required
Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in Acute Surgery Coding or Emergency Department (ED) Coding.
Strong understanding of Human Anatomy, Medical Terminology, and Diagnosis Coding.
Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal).
High analytical capability with strong attention to detail.
Demonstrated willingness to learn, adapt, and grow within the organization.
