Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, is a Central University of India, located in Bilaspur C.G. State, established under Central Universities Act 2009, No. 25 of 2009. Formerly called Guru Ghasidas University (GGU), established by an Act of the State Legislative Assembly, was formally inaugurated on June 16, 1983.
GGU is an active member of the Association of Indian Universities and Association of Commonwealth Universities. Situated in a socially and economically challenged area, the university is appropriately named to honor the great Satnami Saint Guru Ghasidas (born in 17th century), who championed the cause of the downtrodden and waged a relentless struggle against all forms of social evils and injustice prevailing in the society.
The University is a residential Institution.

Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya is a central university located in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, established under the Central Universities Act 2009, No. 25 of 2009. It was formerly known as Guru Ghasidas University established by an Act of the State Legislative Assembly in 1983. GGU has been approved as a university by the UGC. It has been accredited with a B+ Grade by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC). GGU was ranked 42 in the Pharmacy category by National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2021. The University has 11 schools which are further divided into 32 different University Teaching Departments (UTDs) covering almost the entire spectrum of higher education.

Guru Ghasidas Viswavidyalaya’s Central Placement Cell is not only focusing placement for professional courses such as Engineering, Management and Pharmacy but it is equally focused for other branches of science as well as humanities and commerce.
The Central Placement Cell (C.P.C) of Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya endeavors to facilitate and provide suitable placement in reputed multinationals, government organization, NGO's and the private sector. All students of Vishwavidyalaya are entitled to placement assistance, need based training and counseling for employment. The cell assures support to the visiting companies at every stage of the placement process by making Vishwavidyalya infrastructure available to them.
The Central Placement Cell of Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya has all required modern infrastructure facilities for receiving various companies in the campus and also for imparting training to the students. Namely it has an air conditioned Seminar Hall which can house about 200 persons as well as air conditioned Interview Rooms to add to the many facilities available in the Vishwavidyalaya such as conference room and a seminar hall with a capacity of 100. The Vishwavidyalaya is having centrally air cooled state of the art modern auditorium (Rajat Jayanti Shabhagar) having all ICT facilities which can house 800 persons.
